Gloom Dagger

A Gloom Dagger is a device a Wayfinder can use to traverse and manipulate the Gloom. Invented by Omen and Lord Halar during the year after the Gloomfall and crafted from the shard of a Precursor's blade, the dagger - combined with a Wayfinder's immense strength of will - is what helps anchor a Wayfinder's existence and consciousness to reality and sets them apart from any other Echo. Because there are only so many shards of a Precursor's blade, Gloom Daggers are considered a finite and very precious resource, and so only the most exceptional of Echo individuals are given one. In the broadest of terms, possession of a Gloom Dagger is what separates a Wayfinder from other Echoes; all Wayfinders are Echoes, but not all Echoes are Wayfinders.

A Gloom Dagger has numerous uses; perhaps its most iconic ability is to allow a Wayfinder to enter Lost Zones by piercing the veil of a Gloom breach. When opening a Lost Zone, the dagger can be 'loaded' with Imbuements of specific primal elements in order to manipulate what a Wayfinder may see when they enter a Lost Zone. Other active uses of the dagger include serving as a communication link with other characters, destroying the Gloom Anchor at the end of a Lost Zone expedition to weaken the Gloom and harvest its energy, activating Signal Fires, revealing memories, applying sprays to the environment, channeling strength to another Wayfinder to help them recover from serious injury and pick them up, and other miscellaneous uses.

A Gloom Dagger is as unique as the Wayfinder it's attached to and, in some ways, can serve as a visual reflection of the Wayfinder's being. It can be customized with a unique visual Style.
