Wayfinders

The Wayfinders are the playable characters of Wayfinder, a group of characters who use abilities and weapons to fight back against the corrupting force of the world, the Gloom. There are currently eight Wayfinders to pick from as playable characters.

Wayfinders are the last remaining champions of Evenor, after the Gloom consumed most of the world. They are echoes of fallen heroes who were consumed by the Gloom and are born from it, thus having survived it. This process of walking along the edge of the hostile, reality bending Gloom has left the Wayfinders unable to recall most of their memories from before they were consumed, forcing them to have to recollect their past selves as they explore the world around them and venture into Lost Zones.[1] To be a Wayfinder requires exceptional strength of will, such as to form themselves and their consciousness from the chaos of the Gloom; all Wayfinders are Echoes, but not all Echoes are Wayfinders. It is this immense willpower that explains why Wayfinders are able to recover from seemingly mortal injuries and even death, assisted by the anchoring properties of their Gloom Dagger.

Each Wayfinder is their own character, complete with unique abilities, backstory, and memories. Although each Wayfinder has a Signature Weapon, any Wayfinder can equip any weapon[2] and can especially wield echoes of weapons of legend, allowing for unique ways to combat the Gloom.

As part of the Seekers, the Wayfinders are the Seekers' greatest asset, and are essential in the fight against the Gloom after having been brought back as Echoes.[3] A Wayfinder is understood to be orders of magnitude stronger than the average person on a basic level, allowing them to tackle threats that no one else can handle. They can become even stronger in a number of different ways, including by absorbing the Echoes of those they defeat in combat, constituting their enemies' strength as their own. Awakening deep memories of themselves unlocks more of their inner strength, partly by communing with other Echoes of themselves, a taxing and involved process.
