Beacons

The Beacon of Skylight

Beacons are great towers full of mystical energy dotted across Evenor, bastions of celestial power left behind by the Celestial Architects to maintain the order of the world after they left and bequeathed the world to mortals. Great and skilled Arcanists can take advantage of them to fuel feats of magic. Signal Fires serve as relays of the Beacons' power along the ley lines of the world, and lighting them reinforces and augments the Beacons. Balefires are a variant of Beacons, a type of relay described as "conduits within the Gloom, connecting the arcane webs of different Beacons." The network of Beacons and Balefires are known to some as "the blood of the Architects."

History[edit]

After the ancient war between the Precursors and the Architects was over, the Architects left the world of Evenor in the hands of humanity, after having granted them powerful towers of supercharged energy called Beacons. Beacons could be used as an energy source for skilled Arcanists. These Beacons are so powerful, major cities and civilizations were built around them, including the Avar Throne of the Avar Imperium and the Citadel of the Seven Winds located in the Dominion of the Seven Winds.[1] Other known Beacons include the Castolyn Torch (of Lord Halar's homeland), and the Pyrolith in the Maze. The Wayfinders personally interact with three beacons: the Beacon of Skylight, the Balefire of Frostmarch, and the Balefire of the Crucible.
