Commander Creed was the leader of the contingent of Imperial Archons who marched upon the Aurelian monastery in the Highlands of Westreach; at the time, Wingrave and Magan were under his command. As the Archons devoutly honored the Celestial Architects, they charged the monastic Order of the Silver Codex and its leader, the First Scribe, of heresy for delving into the profane mysteries of the Precursors and the Gloom, of abandoning their oaths. With the Writ of Heresy in hand, Creed declared their sentence was death, and he personally led the purge of the monastery, slaying countless monks. Wingrave reluctantly followed orders, while Magan was aghast at the massacre and abandoned his post. The purge ended when the monastery and all its occupants - monk and Archon alike (apart from Wingrave and Magan, who were not present) - were plunged into the Gloom.

Decades later, the perished Creed, like the other monks and Archons in the monastery, now exists as a remnant - an unconscious pseudo-Echo replica of himself endlessly reenacting his final moments before the monastery collaped in the Gloom. The Wayfinder is forced to confront Creed as they explore the monastery and try to unravel the mystery of what truly happened and why the Gloom consumed the campus. They conclude that while the purge of the monks was terrible, Creed and his Archons were not responsible for Aurelian falling to the Gloom.
