The great arcanist Suleran is said to have proposed to the witch-queen Akisheba on the winter solstice, but she spurned him for a full year before knowing his love was true. Her dowry was a ring that she forged of darkness and iron, and so Suleran became known as the Master of Sun and Shadow. Each year, the ring would shed another of its kind. At the next Eventide, the two were about to be married, but Akisheba's land was plagued by a killing creature, the Abominus. It eluded all hunters, disappearing into nothingness. Suleran covered himself with twinhorn blood and feigned death. The Abominus carried him back to its lair, injuring him as it carried him. Yet Akisheba could feel his pain through the rings they shared, and followed the Abominus through the worlds. Together, they slew the beast, and when they returned, they were married. Since then, the rings have been given to those who perform great deeds for the safety of the land.
