Expedition: Undercroft is a Lost Zone expedition in Aurelian.
You've pressed deeper into the monastery, and it's surprisingly well preserved. Stranger still are the remnants wandering the halls—echoes of the people who once lived here. These remnants may hold the key to moving deeper into the ruins... but they may be dangerous.

Common events[edit]
Altar of the Phoenix
The Altar of the Phoenix is an Event found in all Lost Zones. Interacting with the altar will summon a phoenix, who must be defeated to earn rewards. The type of phoenix and mechanics of the event differ depending on the zone.
The Loot Phoenix must be defeated multiple times within two minutes. Each defeat will ignite one of the summoning altar's rings while the phoenix will respawns. Up to eight of the rings can be ignited for maximum rewards. The event ends when the timer expires.
Deception
The Deception is group of four chests. The goal of the event is to pick the two chests without deceivers hiding inside. Hints to those chests are:
- In the distance deceivers can be seen hiding in their chests
- Close by the deceiver chests can move around
Failing means to confront both deceivers in combat.
Gloom Ambush
A Gloom ambush will always occur at least once during a Lost Zone expedition and, in most cases, cannot be bypassed. The ambush takes place in certain rooms which will have a Memory Fragment in the center. Picking up or passing the fragment will seal the exits and initiate the event. Players outside of the ambush can pass through the one-way barriers into the room.
Various Gloom enemies will spawn in two waves, with the second wave starting after a majority of the first wave has been defeated. Tidings, Wretches, Foul Wretches, Husks, Heralds, Seers, and Oracles may spawn throughout. The high volume of enemies, as well as fighting in an enclosed space, may make certain Imbuement effects extremely hazardous.
The barriers blocking the exits will dissipate once all Gloom enemies have been slain, and the remaining enemies in the Lost Zone will have their levels increased by one.
Imbuements
Imbuements are items used to modify the conditions of Lost Zone expeditions. Imbuements will cause Mutators to affect the Lost Zone, with their effects dependent on which imbuements are chosen. Up to two imbuements can be active, with their effects combining to create a new mutator. Three of the same imbuement can also be used. In addition to the imbuement effects, mutated Lost Zones will have altered rewards, enemies, mechanics, and environmental hazards. Rewards altered by mutators will be unique to those imbuements.
Loot Goblin
The Loot Goblin carries a large treasure chest, upon encountering one, the Loot Goblin event will begin. along with a number of miscellaneous trinkets attached to it. When undisturbed, the Loot Goblin can be found in front of an open chest, hunched over a pile of treasure.
Upon approaching or damaging the goblin, the Loot Goblin will begin to flee. Players must defeat the goblin within one and a half minute or else it will completely flee the zone. The Loot Goblin will run away in short bursts, stopping after a few steps. Breaking the goblin's Resilience will cause it to drop immobile on its back for a duration.
Treasure Chests
Soulbound chests when approached will lock themselves with 2 large, green spectral chains and spawn 1-3 enemies within a small radius infront of them. The chest will unlock once all soulbound enemies have been defeated, which are marked with chains glowing near their feet. Soulbound chests may reward Imbuements along with the standard chest rewards.
Trickster Events
Trickster events are found in all Lost Zones. There are 3 variants of these luck based mini games. They all require a Tricksters Key to participate, which is consumed on use. A player can interact with Trickster's Game multiple times per encounter. All variants share, that the wayfinder has a limited amount of attempts to get the grand price, various loot and some of the Trickster's Coins. Group members can either get the same price by staying in close proximity while the game is played, or simply open the last chest for free at a later time.
Events[edit]
Arclight Overload
Occasionally in the ruins, an Arclight Sage can be found stabilizing an orb of arclight. Upon approach, they will call to Wayfinders for Arcstone.
Although the sage asks for an arcstone, a Shadow Imbuement or Chaos Imbuement can be used instead to destabilize the device.
- Arcstone: The device stabilizes, and the sage thanks you for the assistance. However, an Archon Commander with some Archons suddenly appear to assault the sage. Defeating the invaders will complete the event.
- Shadow Imbuement: The device warps the sage, Gloomtouching them and spawning various Gloom enemies. Wretches, Foul Wretches, and Heralds may spawn, and the sage will become aggressive. Defeating all the enemies will complete the event.
- Chaos Imbuement: The device grows in size before detonating, angering the sage. Codex Initiates and Codex Monks will appear and the sage will become aggressive. Defeating all the enemies will complete the event.
Clinical Trial
The event is located in Solarium's Vale, an open-air hall with staircases leading out. In the center of the room is a Memory Fragment, which will start the event when touched.
Upon touching the fragment, walls of radiant light will rise from the ground, sealing Wayfinders within. Various enemies will begin to be simulated, and diamonds of damaging light will periodically appear on the ground. Two waves of weak enemies will appear, including:
After the waves have been cleared, Codex Initiates and Codex Monks will appear as the final wave.
Curator
Decoder
The event is located in the Radiant Scriptorum, a courtyard with stained glass and three decoder devices. In the center of the room is a burning light, which activates the event. The Decoder event has two variants:
The courtyard will be empty, and the decoder devices will be opened, allowing up to three Encoded Tracers to be set into them. After at least one tracer has been set, the light in the center can be interacted with to start the decoding process. During this process, Codex Initiates, Codex Monks, and Codex Sages will appear to defend the decoders. The ambush ends with a fight against the Cryptographer, who must be defeated to complete the event.
The decoder devices will be closed, and the Third Keeper stands next to the light in the center. Defeating the Third Keeper will complete the event and open the decoders.
Gelatinous Cube
Gelatinous Cubes are interactive Events found exclusively in Aurelian Lost Zones. They can be broken to reveal the contents within:
- A Treasure Chest of random size
- Encoded Tracers or a random Data Fragment
- Ichor grows from the cube's remains:
- Three Ichorlings
- A single Ichor
- Rarely, Vaelor's Blood may spawn
In addition, an Unyielding Cube may be rewarded when destroying the cube.
Tracer
Tracer devices can be found randomly through out the Aurelian ruins. Upon activation, the device will rise from the ground and begin its defense system.
The tracer will spawn enemies in waves, typically consisting of a few weak enemies like Goblin Scavengers, Broodspawns, and Ichorlings. In the Undercroft and Repository, Codex Initiates and Codex Monks may appear. Known enemies include:
- Goblin Scavengers
- Goblin Hunters
- Goblin Hackers
- Goblin Seers
- Broodspawns
- Broodhunters
- Ichorlings
- Ichors
- Codex Initiates
- Codex Monks
After defeating all waves, the device will open to reward the data within.
Treasure Chests
Chests found in Aurelian Lost Zones. The eight panels surrounding the chest will light up when stepped on, and will deactivate when stepped on again. To unlock the chest, the lit panels must match the small display under the chest.
