Dialogue[edit]
Ahem! I am Watcher Hagran. I have heard of your deeds and have something of import to ask of you. Would you hear me out?
I have time.
I patrolled the other night. There were no Shrikes to be seen, only an exuberant crowd. Time for me to eat a haunch and keep the peace, correct?
…Right?
Wrong! When I returned home, I found myself without my purse. I retraced my steps, only to find nothing but the straps, cut from me. With my armor on, I had felt nothing.
Those brazen Shrikes must have pickpocketed it! It was a black velvet bag with a gladiator's fist in gold embroidery on the side. I should have known it'd be too tempting a target.
This insult to the Watchers cannot stand. I would have justice! Exact a price from their hides until it is restored to me!
This looks like the bag Hagran mentioned. It's rather heavy. Let me get it back to him.
Some broken statues... I can't tell who they used to be of... Maybe I'm getting closer.
Tonitora statues, like Hagran said! Wait, a note... "Collect the rest of the shipment near the shore." I should see what I can find near the shore at Crossroads Foundry.
And still more of the same…I'll carry what I can to Hagran. With these creatures around, I doubt many Shrikes will come for them.
You return! Was I correct? The Shrikes' stockpiles came through the docks?
Indeed. I brought back what I could carry.
Excellent! Warden Hass, um… didn't see this as a top priority. She says it's more likely they're making forgeries than creating magical totems. So, it's just you and me against the Shrikes.
Let's see what we have. No... No... AH HA! Here it is! This one is mine! See this notch here? I got that when a Shrike stabbed at me and my bag took the knife point. Oh, merciful Arcs.
Look close. This is a proper arm, with proper blue lightning. You can tell because the cobalt's tougher than the gallium, so it won't dent if I do this. Um.. Like... This? Wait…
I gather it's not supposed to do that?
No! NO! This is mine… but it's a counterfeit too! Is this some kind of trick? My statuette… it was a fake all along…?
My parents gave it to me when I was a child. When rumors of the Mazewar beginning anew reached Avar, I volunteered to fight. I thought it was my duty as someone who was protected.
This cannot stand! Others would go to their deaths with such statues, trusting in a lie. It would mock Tonitora's name! We must right this wrong!
The question is how? Give me a few moments, and I am sure I can come up with a way the two of us can end this injustice!
