Dialogue[edit]

Start Quest
Warden Rust

Wayfinder, I've been thinking about Raina and whether I'm ready to know the truth or not.

Raina has been my light. Trusting I'd find her again carried me through the darkest moments of the Fall. I just had to think of seeing her again, and I could push through pain.

Graymourn said that Raina is in Skylight, but wouldn't say if she's alive or dead. If I went there and found her grave—after all this—I don't think I could go on.

But, maybe, just maybe she's been clinging to the hope of finding me as well. I can't just ignore this. But I also can't leave my post, not with the threat of the Reavers.

Player

I can go to Skylight.

Warden Rust

I would be in your debt, truly. If you do... Speak with Foreman Ruby. From what I understand, she's leading the efforts to rebuild Skylight and managing housing for the refugees.

I can't thank you enough, Wayfinder. I just pray that you return with good news.

Clear Phase 1
Foreman Ruby

Hey, Wayfinder! What can I do for you?

Player

I'm searching for a Deepwood refugee.

Foreman Ruby

Yeah, I can help you with that! It was hard finding beds for so many people at once, but we've been reclaiming buildings lost during the Fall. Who are you looking for?

Player

Her name is Raina.

Foreman Ruby

I don't remember a Raina, but I can check the record as soon as I have a moment. I'm dealing with a real mess right now.

The Shrikes stole a shipment of Cragged Spectra, and if I can't scrounge some by the end of the day it's going to be a problem. These Holt refugees, we've got some sleeping eight to a room.

Player

If I got you Cragged Spectra, could you help me?

Foreman Ruby

Sure, but it's not that simple. Even if she's in the records, she might not be where she's supposed to be. And the spectra's not my only problem.

Player

That's fair. I can start with the Spectra, though.

Foreman Ruby

That would be a big help, to be sure. If you can find what I need, report back, and we'll see how things stand.

Clear Phase 2
Foreman Ruby

You're a lifesaver, Wayfinder! I'm still bound up, but I had a thought. I've got things that need delivering to the Holt refugees. If you take them where they need to go, you can ask about your girl.

Player

What sort of things?

Foreman Ruby

Medicine, a few little sundries. We're all struggling, but seems like those from the Holt had been living a nightmare... I've been trying to scrounge up things that can make them feel welcome.

There weren't that many people in Deepwood at the end. Odds are good that someone knows this Raina; you might find her before I'm done with my shift.

Here's the supplies. Let me know when you're done.

Clear Phase 3
Deepwood Holt Refugee

Are you... looking for me? I'm not in any trouble, am I?

Player

I've got supplies from Ruby.

Deepwood Holt Refugee

Boots! Used, to be sure, but that's better than none at all. Oh, that's a kindness, and I'm not used to seeing that. I've seen too much darkness.

You can't imagine what it was like, this last year in the Holt. First we all tried to stand together. We did. But after months in the endless dark, never knowing when the Reavers would strike next...

We never turned on one another, no. But we hoarded what little was left, and kept our distance, praying the Reavers took your neighbor instead of you. Horrible. And now... a stranger gives me boots.

I never thought I could feel hope again. But seeing this place, seeing your kindness... maybe we really can drive back the darkness. Is there anything I can do for you?

Player

Do you know a woman named Raina?

Deepwood Holt Refugee

Raina... I know I've heard the name, but I can't say I do. Sorry.

Clear Phase 4
Deepwood Holt Refugee

You're with the witch, aren't you? I can see her watching me through your eyes. I thought we'd escaped but she's still watching, isn't she?

Player

I brought you a blanket. From Ruby.

Deepwood Holt Refugee

You've marked it, haven't you? With a scent only Reavers can smell. You want them to find me, yes, to take me instead of you? That's it, isn't it? But I'm so cold...

Player

The blanket's safe, I promise.

Deepwood Holt Refugee

I do want a blanket. I do. Th-thank you.

Player

Have you seen a woman named Raina?

Deepwood Holt Refugee

I've tried to forget names. So many dying. So many dead. Easier, not to know their names.

Clear Phase 5
Deepwood Holt Refugee

Someone said they'd bring me my medicine. Is that it?

Player

Yes, I'm delivering supplies from Ruby.

Deepwood Holt Refugee

Thank you... thank you. It's my leg. Survived for so long. So long. Then, two nights before you came... barbed arrow. Poisoned. Lucky to still have the leg at all.

The voices in the woods got really loud. In the beginning, the Reavers were abducting people every night. The screams were unbearable.

I told myself it'd be all right if I just made it to Skylight. Then I said it'd be all right if I found out what happened to Laren, my sister-in-law. Now... I'm not all right.

I found out where Laren went. The Reavers left the ones they caught in pieces, so anyone trying to identify the bodies would have to take an hour reassembling them.

Player

That's terrible. Do you know Raina?

Deepwood Holt Refugee

Raina? Olaf's daughter? Oh yes. I remember her as a child. Always climbing, she was. Built a house out in the woods with that nice boy, Russ? Reavers took him early on.

Player

Rust is safe. But is Raina alive?

Deepwood Holt Refugee

She was. Last week. Keeping sheltered, keeping safe. We all were. But she's alive, yes. With Wilhelm, I think. I haven't seen her here. But I think I saw her, yes, on that last day.

Clear Phase 6
Foreman Ruby

Wayfinder! You made it. Any luck?

Foreman Ruby

I've got to meet with Lord Halar about the Arclight systems. After that I may be able to check the records. But if you've got the time, I could use a bit more help with the refugees.

We're trying to place the Deepwood folk—get them trained and setting them to work. If you could speak with some of the recruits, see if there's any trouble—see if they know your girl?

Player

Sure, I can do that.

Foreman Ruby

Either way, come back to me when you're done and we'll get this sorted.

Clear Phase 7
Deepwood Holt Refugee

Are you here on behalf of the Foreman? I heard I'd be hearing from her people soon.

I'm ready to work! I am. I'm a lumberjack by trade, but they're asking me to work out in the rubble, sifting through the old city. I'm a bit nervous, sure.

I'm used to working with trees. They say the old city's filled with bones, people who was trapped in the rubble. It's no Reavers, but... I've seen too many dead.

Player

I understand. I'll tell Ruby.

Deepwood Holt Refugee

I want to help. I do. I'd just. I'd rather work with trees.

Player

Have you seen a woman named Raina?

Deepwood Holt Refugee

Wilhelm's Raina? Yeah, I have. Saw her on the last day, I did. Haven't seen her here yet, but I'm sure she's about.

Clear Phase 8
Deepwood Holt Refugee

Are you with Ruby? Was surprised to see she's your city's Foreman. Mazelings building Imperial walls! Not sure how I feel about that.

Player

Uh-huh. Have you seen a woman named Raina?

Deepwood Holt Refugee

Can't say that I know her! Anyway, if you're looking to put me to work, I'm willing to join your builders. Just so long as there's guards around to keep an eye on those... nevermind.

Clear Phase 9
Deepwood Holt Refugee

Hello, hello! If you're here from Ruby, please let her know that I'm ready to start as soon as possible.

I'm quite excited! I'm a chronicler by trade. I was in Deepwood Holt pursuing a lead on ancient Riverden relics when the Gloom fell. You can't imagine the horrors of the last year.

I ran out of ink two weeks in. And paper? You won't believe the things I found to write on. The Archives here, oh, I've dreamt of that smell of paper. I can't wait to get to work!

Player

Do you know Raina?

Deepwood Holt Refugee

Raina? No, I'm afraid not. The people of Deepwood, they weren't especially glad to have me about. 'Waste of good water,' some said. No one appreciates a scholar.

But I do have many notes. I can't wait to work with your Corbin, to share my account of this terrible year. You let Ruby know that!

That's all the workers. Time to head back to Ruby.

Clear Phase 10
Foreman Ruby

Back so soon! Did you find your girl?

Player

I'm afraid not. Here's my notes.

Foreman Ruby

You're a good one, Wayfinder. There's hard days ahead for the Holt folk, but we're doing what we can. Now, I've pulled the logs... what was the name again?

Player

Raina. Someone said... Olaf's daughter?

Foreman Ruby

Raina... Raina... Ah! Yes, she's here and safe. Got her settled in quickly since she's full term. Patches says they're lucky they made it here in time.

Player

What do you mean?

Foreman Ruby

I mean the child's coming any day now, Wayfinder... you do know how these things work, right? We got Raina and her husband settled in a room on the ground, no stairs to deal with.

Player

Raina... has a husband?

Foreman Ruby

Yes... Wilhelm? Says here he's a carpenter, that they married after the fall. Kind of romantic, isn't it, finding love when you're surrounded by terrors? It's been too long since we've had a wedding.

We got them settled in near Damon's Bell. I think it's the first house after the lift from Market Street. I've got to get back to it, but thanks again for all your help, Wayfinder.

Clear Phase 11
Raina

Oof, I hope you'll excuse me moving slow. Everything just aches. Not long now, though! Can I help you with something?

Player

Are you Raina, from Deepwood Holt?

Raina

Indeed I am, though glad to be Raina of Skylight now. The horrors we've seen... I thought my world had ended, but now it's a new beginning. We're thinking Russ if it's a boy, or Zaira if it's a girl.

Why do you ask? I don't remember seeing you in the Holt.

Player

Just checking in with survivors. For Ruby.

Raina

Oh, that's wonderful. Wilhelm and I cannot thank all of you enough. Foreman Ruby was so kind to us, and everyone near the Bell has just been simply wonderful.

Player

I'm glad to hear it. I'll... leave you be.

Raina

Very well, then. Thank you for checking on us!

Clear Quest
Warden Rust

Wayfinder... do you have news for me? Is Raina alive?

Player

I have news, yes.

Warden Rust

Is it good news?

Player

Raina... probably thought you were dead.

Warden Rust

What do you mean?

Player

She's alive but married and pregnant.

Warden Rust

...

Player

I'm sorry, Rust.

Warden Rust

No... I... I'm so thankful she is alive. And... I mean... I don't know if she's happy. Could you tell if she... never mind.

Could you not look at me like that? Just leave. I have to be alone now.
