The Kestrel and the Rook is a side story quest in Wayfinder.

Description[edit]

Start

Kestrel slipped you a note while under her Tavern Keeper guise in the Bitter End. It seems she wants to speak with you in her hideout in Lower Skylight. And soon.

Active

The Tavern Keeper slipped you a note under the guise of an unpaid tab in the Bitter End. It seems as if the smuggler Kestrel has need of you. Head to her hideout in Lower Skylight and see what she wants.

Clear

The Shrikes have been moving a large assortment of machine parts, all marked with a strange Shrike cant. In an effort to ensure Skylight might procure any future shipments instead, Kestrel asked you to head into the mines and investigate. However, after returning with a marked blueprint, the smuggler became much colder than usual.

Dialogue[edit]

Clear Phase 2
Kestrel

Well, hey there, love. You came all the way down here, and just when I needed to speak with you? Didn't realize you were a mind reader.

Player

Very funny. What do you want, Kestrel?

Kestrel

I need some muscle. The kind that can get in and out of a Breach—you get me?

Player

What's the job?

Kestrel

Some of my boys hit an incoming Shrike caravan near the tracks this morning. Now, I've got about twenty boxes of cogs, gears, and catalysts for arcanic machinery sitting downstairs.

Player

So, what's the problem?

Kestrel

This. Take a look at the shipping manifest. See those numbers near the top of the page? Indicates this as part of a set. The ninth of ten shipments, in fact.

Player

You're worried they're getting another shipment?

Kestrel

Hmm? Oh, ah, yeah. The Shrikes have enough dangerous toys as it stands. Better Skylight have those supplies than those trigger-happy fools build a few more bombs.

Player

Alright. I'll take the job.

Kestrel

That's what I like to hear. Hit the mines. Crack skulls, kick ass, take names, whatever. Just be sure to find more details about these manifests. Look for the symbol at the bottom here. See it?

Two birds. With their heads pressed together. Commit it to memory. That's how you'll know it's one of the manifests we're looking for, got it?

Player

What is that symbol?

Kestrel

It's… It's a rook and a kestrel. The birds are… sitting on a branch together. Or something. All that matters is that you can recognize it.

Player

I meant, what does it mean?

Kestrel

Oh. It's a cant. Shrikes use them sometimes as a sort of code. Like a way to show someone is part of a job, or communicate with one another, or…

Look, you just need to find more of these, alright? So how about we stop shooting the breeze and we both get to doing our jobs like the consummate professionals we are. Good luck.

Clear Phase 3

Another manifest marked with a Shrike cant. This one seems like it was dated a few months ago, however. I should keep looking.

Clear Phase 4

Another one marked with a Shrike cant. This doesn't seem to be a manifest though. Are these blueprints for a machine? I should bring this back to Kestrel.
